Women’s Health
This highly specialised area is concerned with all aspects of physiotherapy relating to ante and post natal care, pregnancy related back pain and issues relating to bladder, bowel and pelvic floor dysfunction. Due to the sensitive nature of these complaints, assessments and treatments can be conducted in a private consultation room.
Physiotherapy is now well established as an effective treatment option for most people experiencing incontinence or bladder problems. Physiotherapy treatment in this area entails a multi-faceted approach, involving correct education of pelvic floor muscle training, advice on fluid intake, bowel control and exercise programmes.
Conditions
The conditions that we assess and treat at our clinic, include the following;
- Pelvic pain and sacro-iliac joint dysfunction
- Low back pain
- Thoracic pain
- Rectus Abdominus Diastasis (separation of the abdominal muscles)
- Stress urinary incontinence
- Urge incontinence
- Faecal incontinence
- Pelvic floor and core muscle weakness post partum
- Bladder problems
Treatment
In many instances, following a detailed assessment, the prescription of an intensive programme of pelvic floor muscle training may be all that is required for patients to experience a notable improvement in symptoms. We also have biofeedback equipment at our disposal to both objectively assess pelvic floor muscle strength and thus gauge progress with a prescribed exercise programme, and also to be used as a training device to stimulate and enhance effective pelvic floor muscle recruitment.
